The parish continually initiates outreach efforts to both our local as well as distant communities. Information is provided on a variety of outreach activities and who to contact to get involved.
Christian Life Ministries
Hospital Ministry
The hospitality ministry offers refreshments (most Sundays) after the 8:30 am Mass at St. Mary of the Woods and after 10:30 am Masses at Prince of Peace. Volunteers prepare coffee and juice, set out bagels and/or donuts in the parish hall. The volunteers clean the kitchen, take out the trash and wash down the tables when coffee time is over. It’s recommended that adults prepare the coffee. Teenagers and young people who serve coffee and/or juice are to be supervised. This ministry is open to all ages, dispositions and capacities. Cheerfulness is a plus! Hospitality is a great way to get involved in the parish. It’s easy and you get lots of smiles and thank you’s in return. Contact Peg Rademacher at (231) 744-5111. A special goal is to engage people in ministry who haven’t previously been involved. Everyone has gifts to share and their own unique way that God has given them to touch others. Many ministries don’t require large time commitments. You can do Liturgical and Hospitality ministries while attending Mass. The Council reminds us: “We are called to be the hands and feet of the Lord. With the help of each and every one of you, together, we can do just that.” We study and encourage others to thank God for His gifts to us, trusting Him, totally committing to His plan for our lives, and telling others of our awesome God. This results in the best use of our Parish’s time, talent and treasure. A significant source of guidance is the US Bishops’ Pastoral Letter on Stewardship, Stewardship A Disciple’s Response. We share that understanding with the Pastoral and Finance Councils to “increase parishioner involvement in the church and community”. Current tasks of this committee include finding and working with parishioners willing to witness God’s working in their lives, attending workshops/training sessions in the diocese, growing spiritually, and facilitating the Ministries Fair every other year. Our Parish is a member of the International Catholic Stewardship Council. Contact the Parish Office at (231) 744-3321. Want to help the church but can physically help or have transportation? Can you help and say a few prayers for the special needs and intentions of our parish family? All that is required is that you get on the prayer calling list and you will get a call when someone needs prayers. Since this is conducted as a telephone calling chain, we will ask you to make three attempts to reach the next person on the list, and if there is no response, to call the next person (and so on until you have passed on the message). That’s all that is involved. The prayer line gets started at 4 points to be sure the calls get out in a timely manner. Please call Becky Rundquist at (231) 719-0613 if you would like to be a part of this vital ministry or would like to have prayers offered for someone. The best way to encourage new members to join our parish is to have a welcoming attitude to visitors and guests to the parish. The Welcome Committee helps by providing registration materials and information about the parish to those desiring to join Prince of Peace Parish. No training is needed, just the ability to smile and make others feel at home. You will be paired up with an active member of the committee the first time you are on the schedule. The time requirement is minimal and you need only to be at the Welcome Table after Mass at one of the 3 weekend Masses (Saturday night or the two Sunday Masses approximately every 4 to 6 weeks). The schedule in compiled according to the Mass you normally attend. If you’re interested in becoming part of this important ministry please call the office at (231) 744-3321 or e-mail at office@princeofpeacenm.org. The nursery is available for parents who would like to leave their child/children in the loving and capable hands of another adult during the 9:00 am or the 11:15 am Mass. This allows the parents to fully participate in and enjoy the Mass knowing that their child/children is/are safe and happy. Someone interested in volunteering to help in the nursery should feel very comfortable managing a small group of very young children, usually between the ages of 1 and 4. This would include assisting them to the bathroom and changing diapers when necessary. You must take Virtus Training and have a background check to volunteer in this ministry. For more information, contact Donna Phillips at (231) 744-3321 ext 128. The Council of Catholic Women is devoted to energizing the parish, by providing support for the pastor and strength for the parish. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 11:30 am and all women of the parish are invited to participate. Our real goal is to spread the Lord’s invitation to follow in His footsteps and show compassion for others. Throughout the year we plan gatherings to bring the women together. The council has provided several articles for Father’s use, such as a monstrance, candelabra, a censor to be used especially at funerals and helped pay for our stove and ovens and our Defibrillator. We help with the parties at Northcrest/Robbinswood Living Centre, put on Senior Breakfasts, make and sell pizzas and apple pies as fundraisers and hold bake sales. If you are a woman and a member of the parish you are already a member. We are a fun group of great gals… and we need you, too! For contact information, contact Elaine Galazin at (231) 766-2880. This Team seeks to reawaken in all Catholics the call to evangelize by seeking effective and creative ways to challenge all Catholics to invite people in the Community to hear the message of salvation in Jesus Christ so they may come to join us in the fullness of the Catholic faith. Evangelization team members must have a willingness to grow as a disciple of Jesus, help the Pastoral Council guide parish evangelization efforts, and engage in pre-meeting study and reflection. Other opportunities include participation/planning in various parish, deanery and/or diocesan workshops, programs or seminars; drafting written materials for parish publications; and lay witness reflection. Please contact the parish office at (231) 744-3321 if you feel called to head this ministry. Individual spiritual direction is the art of contemplative listening which enables a person to pay attention to God’s personal communication. People respond to this personal communication with God and are able to grow in their intimacy and relationship with Him. Contact Barb Perri at (231) 744-3321 or at bperri@princeofpeacenm.org.
